17-7 PH® Round Bar Coming Soon to Stock
High Strength, Excellent Formability
Good news for customers looking for high-performance precipitation-hardening stainless steel with outstanding mechanical properties. We are expecting a new stock arrival of 17-7 PH® stainless steel round bar (Material No. 1.4568 / UNS S17700) in September 2026, produced in accordance with ASTM A564 and AMS 5644.
17-7 PH combines the processing advantages of an austenitic stainless steel with the high strength achieved through precipitation hardening. This unique combination makes it an excellent choice for demanding applications where strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability are critical.
Why Choose 17-7 PH?
- Excellent Formability
In the annealed condition, 17-7 PH offers good formability and ease of fabrication, allowing complex components to be manufactured efficiently before heat treatment. - High Strength
After precipitation hardening, 17-7 PH achieves exceptionally high strength levels, making it possible to reduce component weight without compromising performance. - Outstanding Fatigue Properties
For parts subjected to cyclic loading, 17-7 PH provides excellent fatigue resistance, making it a preferred material for springs and precision-engineered components. - Good Corrosion Resistance
17-7 PH combines its high mechanical strength with good corrosion resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial environments. - Minimum Distortion During Heat Treatment
One of the key advantages of 17-7 PH is its minimal distortion during heat treatment, resulting in improved dimensional stability and reduced post-processing requirements.
Typical Applications
Thanks to its unique combination of properties, 17-7 PH is widely used in:
- Aerospace & Aviation – Aircraft structural components, actuation systems, retainers, and fasteners.
- Flexing Components – Pressure-sensing diaphragms, bellows, and a wide variety of flat, compression, and coil springs.
- Medical Devices – Precision surgical and orthopaedic instruments where high strength and corrosion resistance are essential.
Five End-Use Conditions
17-7 PH is available in five different conditions suitable for end-use applications. Two additional conditions serve as intermediate stages during multi-step heat-treatment processes.
- Condition A – Solution-annealed starting condition suitable for fabrication of parts that can subsequently be heat treated to TH1050 or RH950. This condition can also be used as supplied and is available across the full size range in flat products, bars, and wire.
- Condition C – Cold-worked condition. Not available in all diameters or thicknesses. Like Condition A, it may be used as supplied when the mechanical properties are sufficient. Condition C can be heat treated to CH900.
- Condition TH1050 – The softest of the three precipitation-hardened conditions, offering a balanced combination of strength and ductility.
- Condition RH950 – Provides higher strength with reduced ductility compared to TH1050.
- Condition CH900 – Delivers the highest yield and tensile strength, although with lower ductility. Mechanical properties vary with product diameter, with smaller diameters typically achieving higher tensile values.
